Children’s Full Names

In most western countries, children typically take their father’s last name. In Spain, this is different. Spanish children receive both their father’s and their mother’s last names. The first part of their full name is their given name, which is decided by their parents. The second part of their name is their paternal last name followed by their maternal last name. Another unique custom in Spain is that women do not use their partners’ last names when they get married. This is not a legal requirement in Spain.

대부분의 서양 국가에서 아이들은 일반적으로 아버지의 성을 따온다. 하지만 스페인에서는 다르다. 스페인 아이들은 아버지와 어머니의 성을 모두 받는다. 이름의 첫 번째 부분은 그들의 부모에 의해 붙여진 이름이다. 이름의 두 번째 부분은 아버지의 성으로 그들의 어머니의 성에 뒤이은 이름이다.
스페인의 또 다른 관습은 여성들이 결혼할 때 파트너의 성을 사용하지 않는 것이다. 이것은 스페인에서 법적으로 요구되지 않는 사항이다.
