In 1976, the Risis Orchid was born when a young Singaporean scientist discovered a way to cover natural orchids in gold. Live orchids are carefully selected and preserved with a layer of copper. These orchids are then slowly plated in 24 karat gold. The result is a unique natural work of art that captures the beauty of Singapore’s national flower. The Risis Orchid is made into pen holders, brooches, and many other gift items that make wonderful souvenirs.

1976년, Risis난초는 싱가포르의 한 젊은 과학자가 천연 난초를 금으로 덮는 방법을 발견하면서 탄생했다. 살아있는 난초는 겹의 구리로 엄선하여 보존하고 있다. 그런 다음 이 난초들은 24캐럿 금으로 천천히 도금된다. 그 결과로 싱가포르 국화의 아름다움을 사로잡는 독특한 자연 예술 작품이 만들어진다.

Q. If you were getting the Risis Orchid as a souvenir, who would you give it to and why?

A. If I were to get the Risis Orchid, I would get it for my grandmother. My grandmother is an avid lover of orchids. My great-grandfather brought her to a flower show when she was a child and she saw orchids there for the first time. Orchids were very exotic and seldom seen at that time and my grandmother fell in love with the orchids and the rest is history. She always had orchids in a greenhouse behind her home and I would help her to take care of them whenever I visited her. My grandmother also won some prizes for her orchids and she was very proud of them. The Risis Orchid would be the perfect gift for her.
