Shoes in Temples

  • 맛집영어 영어수강 영어교재 이미지
  • Shoes should be removed before entering any temple in Thailand. Outside every temple, shoe racks are provided for visitors to take their shoes off. Feet are considered dirty in Thailand, as well as shoes. It is important to leave them outside the temple as a sign of respect. The same is practiced at Thai homes, restaurants, and even some shops and offices.

Q.
Aside from
temples and religious monuments, where else do you think we should remove our shoes and why?
A. I think another place that we should remove our shoes are in schools. This will not be for religious reasons but hygiene reasons. Think about all the places that our shoes have been. Why should we then walk around in them inside our classrooms, where children and young people are? The same should also apply for our homes. I have also noticed that some people will remove their shoes in their hotel rooms in Thailand. Staff coming into the hotel room will also remove their shoes and put them back on when they leave.
