What is your favorite dessert?

My favorite dessert is the French creme brulee. Creme brulee, also known as burnt cream, is a rich velvety custard topped by a crunchy caramel-like layer. The layer on top is usually just brown sugar. At the time that it is served, the waiter or waitress will burn the top layer with open flame. As the sugar burns, it melts and quickly cools to create a thin, hard sugar layer on top. To eat it, customers have to first hit and break the top layer. The broken up top layer is then eaten together with the soft custard beneath. The bits of crunchy top layer together with the soft custard give this dessert wonderful contrasting textures. It is a treat for the senses.
