Superstitions

Thais are a superstitious bunch, with an endless list of superstitions. Many superstitions involve ghosts or bad luck. For example, the Thais do not get a haircut on a Wednesday because they think it will bring them bad luck. They also believe that if single females sing while cooking or eating, they will end up with an old husband. Thais also don’t leave home if they hear a gecko before leaving home. It’s considered a warning sign that something bad will happen, so Thais stay home.

태국 사람들은 미신을 믿는 사람들이며 끝없이 많은 미신이 있다. 많은 미신들은 유령 혹은 나쁜 운에 관련되어 있다. 예를 들어, 태국인들은 그 행위가 불운을 가져다 줄 것이라고 생각하기 때문에 수요일에 머리를 자르지 않는다. 또한 미혼 여성들이 요리를 하거나 음식을 먹으면서 노래를 부르면 결국 늙은 남편을 만나게 될 것이라고 믿는다.
