  • If visitors want to take pictures of locals, they are advised to get permission first. Taiwanese are sensitive to having their faces captured in photos. It is best to avoid taking the faces of people when taking photos in Taiwan. The same sensitivity should be shown when uploading photos online. The privacy of others should be respected by not posting photos of others without their permission.

Q & A
Vocabulary
Q. If someone took a picture of you without your permission, or if you found yourself on social media without your permission, what would you do?
A. If it is among friends, I would first ask to see the photo if someone took my photo without my permission. If I am okay with it or if only a small part of me shows, then I will leave it. If I think it violates my privacy, then I would ask the person to delete the photo in front of me. On the other hand, if it is a group photo, it would mean that I gave my consent upon taking the photo, so I would not have any objection to it being posted online. However, if for some reason I think a group shot with me is not appropriate to be posted online, I would ask the person to remove it.
