The Mid-autumn Festival is celebrated after the first autumn harvest in Taiwan. This is a time when many Taiwanese people thank their Gods for the plentiful harvest and pray for a healthy year to come. The Mid-autumn festival is the only romantic festival the Taiwanese can enjoy since most celebrations are religious in Taiwan. Couples have mooncakes and specially prepared wine under the brightest moon of the year. Many families also celebrate by hosting barbecues under the bright moon.

'중추절'은 타이완의 첫 번째 가을 수확 다음에 기념된다. 많은 대만 사람들이 앞으로 다가올 건강한 해를 위해 수확한 것과 수확한 것에 대해 신에게 감사하는 시기이다. 대만에서는 대부분의 행사가 종교적이기 때문에 중추절은 대만인들이 즐길 수 있는 유일하게 로맨틱한 축제이다.
커플들은 일 년 중 가장 밝은 달 아래에서 월병을 먹고 와인을 마신다. 많은 가정들도 밝은 달 아래에서 바비큐를 열면서 축하한다.

Q. Do you have any special holiday treats in your family?

A. Yes, I do. On Christmas day, my family always has roasted chicken, japchae, and sweet rice drink. This is unique to my family because all of these dishes are my mom's special recipes that she has made for as long as I can remember. My sister and I now make them with my mom and keep up the family tradition. My family insists that it should be a family tradition that we pass on to the next generation.
