Children and young people in Canada sometimes receive tickets from police officers for good behavior. This ticket is known as a positive ticket. The belief is that young people are more likely torespond to reward than criticism. Local police will hand out positive tickets for things such as picking up garbage, wearing a bike helmet, or crossing the street in a safe manner. Rewards are donated by local businesses and can include free hamburgers, cinema tickets or a chance to see the local hockey game.
What do you think of the positive tickets in Canada?
A.
I think it is a great idea! I wish we had something like that in America. I think it is a very positive way to train children. Teaching them right from wrong in such a positive way, where they can also receive praise from the community, will have lasting effects on the children. The children have positive experiences with police officers and they are more likely to have better attitudes as teenagers and adults.
