The United States has many diverse religions. This is due to the freedom for religions that is guaranteed in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. Protestant Christians lead in the religions found in the country. The number for this lead religion, however, has seen a decrease in recent years within a short period of time. This is due to the fact that other religions in the country have prospered. Over 40% of Americans view religion as an important part of their lives. This is a significant percentage in developed countries.

Why do you think religious freedom is included in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution?

- I think the First Amendment of the United States Constitution showcases that the country was built on freedom and the rights of individual to pursue what they want. This encourages diversity and unity at the same time. It can be challenging to have more than a few religions in a country, especially if some religions have less members than others. If not for the First Amendment, many groups of minorities may be ostracized and discriminated against for their beliefs or religions. Therefore, the First Amendment not only ensures respect and understanding in the society, but it also allows its people to live in harmony and unite under any crises.
