The iconicStatue of Liberty in America was a gift from the people of France to America. It was gifted to the United States by France in 1886, to celebrate the friendship between America and France. The Statue of Liberty stands 93 meters above Upper New York Bay. Her name was derived from a Roman Goddess, Libertas, who representsfreedom. The statue’s crown has seven spikes, which represent the seven continents and seven oceans of the world. Standing so tall in the open, the Statue of Liberty withstands over 600 lightning bolts every year and in strong winds, her torch can move about five inches from side to side!
