Yellowstone National Park’s famous geyser, the Old Faithful, was discovered in 1870. Old Faithful was named for its faithful and predictablebursts of hot water. It erupts around 20 times a day with a 90% predictionrate. Hot water eruptions can vary from 100 to 180 feet in height, normallylasting from one and a half seconds to five minutes. From when Yellowstone first became the world’s first national park in 1872, the number of hot water eruptions has added up to more than a million. Visitors to Old Faithful should be careful to observe it from the boardwalk as the water temperature has been measured at 204°F (95.6°C), and the steam temperature measures above 350°F!
Are there any natural wonders, like the Old Faithful, in your country?
A.
Yes, there are. One of the natural wonders that I always marvel at is the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Batu Caves is a limestonehill with three majorcaves and many smaller caves. Inside the major caves, huge natural and amazing limestone formations can be seen. The caves were first discovered by a follower of the Hindu religion who set up Hindu temples in the limestone caves. Today, a 100-year-old Hindu temple, statues, and paintings can be seen at the Batu Caves.
