The Grand Canyon is located in the Arizona state of America. This stunning, natural formation is a result of the natural erosion of water through rocks over millions of years. The Colorado River can still be seen at the bottom of the mile-deep Grand Canyon. Layeredbands of red and colorful rocks reveal millions of years of geological history in cross-section. Huge in scale, the Grand Canyon stretches 18 miles across and is 277 miles long. Much of the Grand Canyon is the Grand Canyon National Park, which receives about 5.5 million visitors each year.
I think it is amazing and scary at the same time! The view is spectacular, but it also looks scary to me because it is so big and high. I think I would be worried if I was there, worried to look down and see how far from the river at the bottom I am. However, I think the layered rocks are amazing. To think about how long ago the Grand Canyon was created, or how long it took to create the Grand Canyon, it leaves me speechless. I believe we should be very careful with natural formations like that, to preserve it for as long as we can for future generations.
