Tipping is an important culture of the America society. It is a way for customers to show their appreciation for good service. The act of tipping is practiced in eateries and restaurants throughout the country. The minimum amount of tip that is expected is 15% to 20% of the total bill. However, tipping more for excellent service is also quite common. If a customer tips under the minimum 15%, it is considered to be extremely rude. Depending on where you are in America, especially in cities like New York, customers can expect to get an earful from waiter or waitresses if they do not tip the minimum required.

- Unlike America, Singapore does not have a tipping culture. Servers in Singapore are paid the minimum wage required under the law and do not need to rely on tips for their wages. In addition, a minimum percentage is often included in the bill for gratuities, so extra tipping is not required. This is sometimes controversial, as some customers argue that they still have to pay for bad service, which is true since the tip is already included in the bill.
