Q.
What comes to mind when you hear the word "taxes?"
A.
I think of the words "essential" and "unfair" when I hear the word "taxes." I understand that the taxes I pay is supporting common resources in my community and country, such as the police, firefighters, public libraries, and parks. It helps to ensure that the roads people travel on are safe and well-maintained. For these reasons I think taxes are essential.
However, for most of us, taxes are a complicated chore to be dealt with. It is obvious that people with higher income pay higher taxes, while people with lower income pay lower taxes. The wallet of an ordinary employee like me is called a "glass wallet." This means that how much money we make is very transparent, and we have to pay taxes based on what we actually make. However, the rich have the means to hide and manipulate how much they make, and many do so to avoid paying more taxes. The poor don't have enough money to pay taxes. I have often felt frustrated at how unfair the situation can be for regular people like me.
