Q.
Please describe the capital city of your country and why it was chosen as the capital.
A.
Washington DC is the capital of the United States and has been since 1800. Washington DC borders the states of Maryland and Virginia. It has large historical monuments and buildings and is home to iconic museums and performing arts venues such as the Kennedy Center. America moved its capital from Pennsylvania to Washington DC because the government tried to find a compromise between those who wanted slavery and those who didn’t. The states in the north did not want slavery, but states in the south did, so the government moved the capital from the north to a more neutral position, in between the north and south of America.
