Malaysian Chinese are Malaysian citizens who are of Chinese descend. Today, they are the second largest ethnic group after the Malay majority. Malaysian Chinese are mostly of the Buddhist faith. Their appearance is similar to that of Northeast Asians. South Koreans visiting in Malaysia are often mistaken for Malaysian Chinese because they look so similar.

말레이시아계 화교들은 중국계 말레이시아인이다. 오늘날, 그들은 말레이인 다음으로 두 번째로 큰 민족 집단이며 말레이시아계 중국인이 대부분이다.

Q. Have you ever experienced being spoken to in a foreign language?

A. During a business trip to Shanghai several years ago, a local Chinese man spoke to me in Mandarin. I answered him in English, but he didn't understand me very well. I tried to communicate with him using a few Mandarin words. He replied in Mandarin but it went over my head. It was a little frustrating but also interesting at the same time. Today, the development of many language translation applications has made it possible for people who speak different languages to communicate. I know it would have been a lot easier if I had the translation app during my Shanghai business trip.
