Q.
What do you think about the ban on chewing gum in Singapore?
A.
I was very surprised when I first heard about this law. At first, I could not understand why Singapore would choose to spend valuable time and resources on something as small as gum. However, upon further research, I discovered that one of the main reasons why gum was banned was because it was often found stuck on the train rails at subways. It was not only dangerous but it costs a lot of money for the government to clean. It also delayed trains, which was a great inconvenience to people who needed to ride the train. The chewing gum ban made sense after my research.
